Author Frequita Slade Performs at Osceola Library

Author Frequita Slade

Joining us for Black History Month public speaker and author of "Colored Girl", Frequita Slade will perform as "Anelsa" reading from her book of short stories and poems.

Anelsa uses the podium and the pen to explore the black experience and the human experience in all of its manifest forms. Dressed in period clothing, Anelsa takes her audiences back to a time when we were family, we were united, we had respect, and we loved each other; a time when we were at our best. A time when we were colored.

Afrikan Griot Kwabena Dinizulu at Osceola Library

Come and celebrate Black History Month with us at the Osceola Library System. We have several events going all through February for everyone from childrens to adults.

The Afrikan Oral Tradition

Kwabena Dinizulu, a nationally known performance artist, critically acclaimed poet, and griot (Afrikan Storyteller) will present a special Family Storytelling presentation that addresses cultural diversity and character development. Bring the entire family along for his engaging tales.

February Grant Workshops at the Osceola Library

Our popular grantwriting workshop series continues on this February. There is plenty to learn for aspiring grant writers of all levels so sign up for a free and informative learning experience. We offer two different types of workshops, the Lunch & Learn where participants are encouraged to bring a lunch along with them and Grant Writing Workshops. Learn how the Library, the internet, Foundation Center Search, Grant.gov, Guidestar, and other sources can imporve your search success and make you the Sherlock Holmes of grants research. This workshop is helpful for beginners and intermediate grant writers.

Crafters' Corner - One Stroke Painting

Crafters' Corner returns in February with a whole new set of workshops. Cathy Elstermann will be demonstrating Donna Dewberry's One Stroke painting technique just in time to romance you into Valentine's Day.

Tim Dorsey Book Tour Stops at Osceola Library

New York Times bestselling author Tim Dorsey will be making a stop on his national book tour right here in Osceola County at Hart Memorial! Mr. Dorsey is the author of such novels as Florida Roadkill, Torpedo Juice, The Big Bamboo, and Hurricane Punch.




Come and join us for this very special event. Mr. Dorsey will be talking about his new novel Atomic Lobster, which is set to be released January 22. If you've never had the chance to meet and talk to the author, don' t miss this great opportunity.




Mr. Dorsey lives in Tampa and has been a resident of Florida since his family moved here when he was one year old. His books are filled with wacky villains and packed with Florida history, past and present. For more information on the author and his books check out his website.
